SOP - Costs of Care
(Section 4.04 of the Transfused
and Hemophiliac HCV Plans)
1. Where the Administrator is satisfied that the
Approved HCV Infected Person requires care due to
one of the Level 6 medical conditions caused by
HCV (s.4.01(e)) and that such care was recommended
by his/her treating physician, the costs of care
may include:
(a) home health care; |
(b) nursing care; |
(c) personal care for the claimant provided
by a relative in the home; |
(d) respite care; |
(e) day care; |
(f) cost of nursing home care or of long-term
care facility; |
(g) palliative care; and |
(h) case management and claim preparation. |
2. Costs of care shall not include:
(a) costs covered under compensation
for loss of services in the home (s. 4.03); |
(b) costs covered under compensation for uninsured
treatment and medication (s. 4.06); |
(c) costs covered under compensation for out-of-pocket
expenses (s. 4.07); |
(d) that portion of the costs of care covered
by public or private insurance
(s. 4.04); and |
(e) that portion of the costs of care in excess
of $50,000 (in 1999 dollars) per calendar year
(s. 4.04). |
3. The Administrator may in its discretion from
time to time require verification from the Approved
HCV Infected Person's treating physician that care
continues to be required due to one of the Level
6 medical conditions caused by HCV.
4. Personal care for the claimant provided by a relative in the home mentioned in paragraph 1(c) is payable up to a maximum of 20 hours per week, unless otherwise recommended by the treating physician or by an approved care assessment specialist in a written report following an assessment visit at the claimant's home.
5. The costs of care mentioned in paragraph 1 (c) are calculated at $12 per hour indexed from 1999 dollars for care provided before January 1st 2010 and at $20 per hour indexed from 2010 for care provided after January 1st 2010.
