"The firm of Eckler Partners Ltd. was engaged to
provide the fund with continuing actuarial advice during
the year. Eckler Partners had completed the initial actuarial
valuation of the assets and liabilities of the Hepatitis
trust fund in 1999, that was used before the courts in
seeking approval of the settlement agreement. They are
one of the leading firms of actuaries in Canada.
During the year, the actuary assisted the Joint Committee
in a number of areas including issues surrounding data
and modelling requirements for future actuarial valuations,
quarterly interest accumulations and allocations to the
outstanding liabilities for the provincial governments,
review of the emerging claims and financial experience,
updates to the payment schedules and compensation limits
for increases in inflation, and other miscellaneous items."
