The firm of Eckler partners Ltd. was engaged to provide the Trust Fund with continuing actuarial advice during the year. In 1999, Eckler Partners had completed the initial actuarial valuation of the assets and liabilities of the Trust Fund that was used before the courts in seeking approval of the settlement agreement. They are in the process of completing the first triennial actuarial valuation of the assets and liabilities of the Trust Fund at the present time.
During the year, Eckler Partners assisted the Joint Committee in a number of areas including issues surrounding data and modelling requirements for actuarial valuations; quarterly interest accumulations and allocations to the outstanding liabilities for the provincial governments; a review of the emerging claims and financial experience; updates to the payment schedules and compensation limits for increases in inflation; and other miscellaneous items.
